The Best Part of the Journey started from a simple observation: most of what's written about retirement either talks down to readers with oversimplified tips, or buries them in technical jargon that assumes a finance degree. We wanted something in between โ€” content written by people who are genuinely curious about how retirement income, health, and lifestyle decisions actually work, and who care about explaining them clearly rather than impressively.

We are not a large financial publisher, and we don't pretend to be. We're a small, independent team with a personal interest in retirement planning โ€” built initially out of our own research into things like covered call ETFs, Social Security timing, and Medicare enrollment, and a realization that the answers we found were scattered across dozens of sources, often contradictory, and rarely written with an ordinary retiree's actual situation in mind.

So we started writing it down properly โ€” researching each topic thoroughly, citing real sources, and being honest about trade-offs and risks rather than only the upside. That body of work became this website. We update it regularly as rules, rates, and research change, and we're still learning alongside our readers.

What We Believe

๐Ÿ” Clarity Over Cleverness

If an explanation needs a finance dictionary, we haven't finished writing it. Every guide is written so a first-time reader can follow it.

โš–๏ธ Trade-Offs, Not Just Upside

Every financial and health strategy has a downside. We try to name it clearly rather than only selling the benefits.

๐Ÿ“š Real Research, Real Sources

Our articles and guides draw on official data โ€” SSA, CMS, Morningstar, peer-reviewed research โ€” not recycled blog posts.

๐Ÿ”„ Updated, Not Frozen

Rules change every year. We revisit and update our content as new figures and research become available.

What This Site Is โ€” and Isn't

We are an independent, educational publisher. We are not financial advisors, insurance agents, doctors, or tax professionals, and nothing on this site should be treated as personalised advice. Our goal is to help you understand your options clearly enough to ask better questions โ€” of your own advisor, your doctor, or the Social Security Administration โ€” not to replace that professional guidance. See our full disclaimer for more detail.

How We Support the Site

The Best Part of the Journey is supported primarily through the sale of our digital guides โ€” currently covering covered call ETFs, Social Security timing, Medicare enrollment, and safe withdrawal rates โ€” and, as the site grows, through select affiliate partnerships and advertising. We disclose affiliate relationships clearly wherever they appear. Purchasing one of our guides directly supports the research and writing time that goes into all of our free content as well.
